Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
Darshan is a Hindu word which is untranslatable directly into English, though its closest approximation might be "homage." A devout Hindu will visit holy men and make pilgrimages to sacred sites in order to "do darshan": quietly visiting these people or places, with the intention and belief that one can receive blessings from them. This 1974 film "makes darshan" to four sadhus (holy men) living in India from Rishekesh to Gangotri. Aside from devout Hindus, this documentary is likeliest to be of interest to students of religion and anthropology.
