Synopsis by Hal Erickson

To fully appreciate Dahalo Dahalo, it is necessary to understand two things about the African island of Madagascar. The Zebu, a sort of humpbacked bull, is a much-prized cattle commodity on the island. A "dahalo" is a Zebu rustler, and since this sort of crime carries a fairly heavy penalty, the worst of the dahalos are not above murder. In this film, a group of dahalos kill some legitimate hunters. The authorities swing into action immediately, even though tracking down the fugitives in the treacherous terrain of Madagascar is strictly a needle-in-the-haystack proposition. For its limited American release, Dahalo Dahalo was retitled Once Upon the Time in the Midwest.
