Some unsung heroes of the police force finally get a cop show of their own in this weekly television drama. Gil Grissom (William L. Petersen) heads up the Las Vegas police department's Criminalistics division; dubbed "the Nerd Squad" by higher-ups, Criminalistics is in charge of collecting and analyzing physical evidence that can be used in an investigation, such as fingerprints, fingernail clippings, and strands of human hair. Joining Grissom in this unglamorous but painstaking work is Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger), a single mother whose devotion to her job often causes problems at home. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was created by Anthony Zuiker, who was driving a tourist tram at Las Vegas' Mirage Hotel when he first came up with the idea. The show premiered on the CBS television network on October 6, 2000.
