synopsis
Counterfeiters was one of several foreign films bundled together for American TV exposure when video audiences of the 1950s demanded more "current" Late Late Show fare. Surprisingly, this Italian production was not dubbed into English, but subtitled instead, a process that seldom shows up well on the small screen. Fosco Giachetti stars as a Neapolitan detective, bent on breaking a counterfeiting ring. The second half of the film spends too much time with the cat-and-mouse game played between Giachetti and his quarry. This turgid finale contrasts sharply with the energy of the film's early reels.
