Although nothing to get too excited about, Coronado remains a tuneful, and, at times, utterly charming little musical comedy that was rather obviously meant as an advertisement for San Diego's most famous hostelry, on the grounds of which it was partially filmed. A typical Paramount Grade-B musical, one of many to star the personable Johnny Downs, Coronado is of some historical value due to the appearance, rare onscreen, of Eddy Duchin and his orchestra. Not quite of the same historic importance is blond leading lady Betty Burgess, a typical studio starlet with a bit of voice training, who instead of lasting fame went on to co-star in one of the worst Westerns ever foisted upon an unsuspecting audience, The Adventures of the Masked Marvel (1939).
