synopsis
It was Man From Snowy River's George Miller, rather than Mad Max's George Miller, who directed the 1986 Australian outdoor drama Cool Change. It's Cattlemen vs. Conservationists in this good-natured Down Under "Western." The ecology-minded bunch is shown to be selfish and duplicitous, which may be why this film hasn't been given a wide U.S. release. As in Snowy River, the plot is straightened out by a Montague-Capulet style romance between forest ranger John Blake and the lovely Lisa Armytage. Cool Change did well in its native country, but George Miller would have to wait for 1995's Babe for another worldwide hit.
