Four African-American women use performance art to create cultural identity in the face of long-standing racism in this documentary. Anita Gonzalez, a choreographer, dancer and leader of Bandana women performs scenes from "Totem" with Dor Green. They also perform scenes from the racially charged "Sally's Rape." In the last two sections, renowned photographer Carrie Mae Weems discusses the photos she featured in a 1993 retrospective at the Portland Art Museum. Finally jazz pianist Cassandra Wilson plays her jazz-laced version of "Amazing Grace."
