That old rogue C. Aubrey Smith positively shines playing a kindhearted, if slightly bent, old humbug in this otherwise fairly standard crime thriller from the B-units at Fox. Nothing happens in City of Chance that you haven't seen many times before, but everyone plays it with tongue firmly planted in cheek and the 56 minutes or so go by painlessly.
