Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Gayne Whitman plays the titular Ross Cavanaugh in this energetic five-reel western. Cavanaugh's principal duty is to keep the peace between the feuding cattlemen and sheepmen in his district, a job made difficult by a marauding band of hired guns led by Ed Whetherford (Otto Lederer). When Whetherford is locked in the hoosegow, his little daughter is sent East to be provided with a fancy education. Fifteen years later, the grown-up Virginia Whetherford (Nell Shipman) returns home, quickly alienating the locals with her snobbish ways. Cavanaugh falls in love with Virginia and sets about to "tame" her, while she simultaneously tries to overcome the stigma of being an outlaw's daughter. Leading lady Nell Shipman remained within the western genre throughout her career, ultimately producing, directing and writing her own vehicles.
