Synopsis by Mark Deming

A young man finds himself losing his grip on the dividing line between fantasy and reality in this independent drama. Colin Carter (Christopher Preksta) is a high-school student who is struggling to find a way to alleviate the stifling boredom of life in a Midwestern industrial town. Colin's favorite comic book character as a child was crime-fighting superhero Captain Blasto, and as he looks back on his old comics he recalls his youthful ambition to one day become the costumed hero himself. Colin decides there's a lot to be said for living out your dreams and begins fashioning a Captain Blasto suit, which he wears as he foils phony bad guys staging fake robberies arranged by Colin. But as Colin sinks deeper into the Captain Blasto character, he finds himself dealing with real criminals rather than fake ones, which changes the stakes in his game considerably. Written, directed and edited by Christopher Preksta (who also played Colin), Captain Blasto was shot in Pittsburgh, PA, using digital video equipment on a bare-bones budget of only 7,000 dollars.
