Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Margaret Kennard (Leah Baird) takes her baby and runs off with the devious James Carroll (Alexander Gaden). Her husband (Robert T. Haines) follows after them, but Carroll leaves Margaret and her child in a house that burns to the ground. Kennard, convinced that his family is dead, joins the priesthood. But his family has survived, and Margaret goes to work for the Salvation Army, while her daughter, Agnes (also played by Baird), grows up and marries an ambitious congressman (William B. Davidson). Margaret works with Harry Garretson (Downing Clark) against the food trusts, while Agnes' husband is under the thumb of Carroll, who is a lobbyist for the profiteers. While on a boating trip, Carroll tries to have his way with Agnes, but the craft capsizes, and she is saved by Father Kennard. Carroll also escapes a watery grave, and he goes on to trap Agnes in his apartment. The rest of the cast finds out about Carroll's villainous plans and convene at his place. With everyone together in one room, their identities are all revealed to each other, and a happy reunion (for all but Carroll) is the result. This melodrama was based on the stage play by Augustus Thomas.
