Campus Knights is a breezy comedy of mistaken identity that also embraces such then-new phenomenon as the increasing number of women on college campuses, and even alludes to a matter that is still relevant in the 21st century, inappropriate relationships between professors and students. Raymond McKee is delightful and quite convincing in his portrayal of a dual role, creating two distinct characters that are equally enjoyable to watch -- indeed, looking at him today, one thinks of Jerry Lewis (in a good way) and his work and range at their best. Shirley Palmer is equally beguiling as the plucky heroine of this comedic piece, a very modern girl for her time who knows the score and isn't shy about asserting herself. Director Albert Kelly pulls these performances together through Arthur Hoerl's clever script in neat, briskly-paced fashion, and the result is an enduringly enjoyable late-silent-era comedy.
