Camille is a handsomely mounted TV production of the perennially popular Alexandre Dumas story. The film is skillfully rendered by veteran director Desmond Davis, who does a good job of structuring the events to fit the interrupted pattern required by commercial television. 24-year-old, Italian-born actress Greta Scacchi is well cast in a role that had often been played by older actresses. Despite the story's Parisian setting, almost no one in the cast is French, but the performances of the mostly British cast are nonetheless quite good. Though the story may be familiar, Davis' version is less sanitized than many others.
