Virile cowboy star Roy Stewart starred as Red Stewart in a short series of late-teens westerns. The third of the series, By Proxy, came out in 1918. This time around, Red Stewart pulls a John Smith, pleading for the hand of a fair maiden on behalf of a pal. Red is a bit more direct than his Pilgrim predecessor: in fact, he goes so far as to kidnap the girl in question (Maude Wayne). When it turns out that he's grabbed the wrong girl, it looks like Red's headed for the pokey. Fortunately, the girl falls in love with our hero, and all is well.
