Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The year 1986 seemed to produce a bumper-crop of Iranian films: no fewer than three of them were given American release. The Bus is set in a backward village that still relies on horse-driven carts for transportation. The villagers pool their meager savings to purchase a bus from the Big City. The cart drivers, sensing that their livelihood is in jeopardy, do their best to thwart the villagers' plans. Inasmuch that Iran has always had one foot in the present and one in the past, The Bus is rather objective in its treatment of the film's two opposing forces.
