Synopsis by Janiss Garza

In the far-more sentimental era of the late 'teens, mother love made for solid movie fare. The title to this picture (but not its plot) came from an ancient (even for 1919) hit song, Break the News to Mother, by Charles K. Harris, and the star, Gertrude Berkely, was known for another mother role she did in War Brides. Dave Bray (Raymond Bloomer) worships his mother (Berkely) and also loves Ruth Godwin (Pearl Shepard), the daughter of the president of the company where he works. Warren Flint (William Bailey), a rival for Ruth's affections, causes Dave a lot of trouble, and eventually they quarrel in Flint's office. Flint picks up a gun and in the ensuing struggle, it goes off and Flint is wounded. He accuses Dave of trying to kill him and Dave is forced to leave town without telling either his mother or Ruth of his whereabouts. After a year he returns, having joined the Army and earned a Distinguished Service cross. The charges against him have been cleared, and he is reunited with his mother. Ruth, also, is still there for him.
