A remake of sorts of the 1940 Tim McCoy vehicle Frontier Crusader, Boot Hill Bandits is perhaps the best of the "Range Buster" oaters -- not that that in itself is much of a recommendation. The little Western suffers from the usual lack of budget but Arthur Durlam's screenplay at least gets our heroes from A to B with a minimum of fuss, and the villains, including the always watchable I. Stanford Jolley as a rather arrogant outlaw calling himself the Mesquite Kid, are unusually colorful. As for comic sidekick Max Terhune and his dummy, Elmer (who receives separate billing!), well they remain purely a matter of taste.
