Brooke Hayward, the daughter of producer Leland Hayward and actress Margaret Sullavan, appears in this Bonanza episode as Laura White, the childhood sweetheart of Joe Cartwright. Now all grown up, Laura wants to marry Joe, but neither he nor her father Captain White (Frank Overton) approve of this match. What Joe doesn't know, but Captain White does, is that Laura is terminally ill -- and the Captain is determined to withhold this information, lest Joe marry Laura out of pity.
