Synopsis by Ryan Shriver
Emotions run high between three crew members of a South Korean naval recovery unit in director Lee Jeong-guk's 2003 action-adventure film Blue. Longtime pals Lee Tae-hyeon (Kim Yeong-ho) and Kim Jun (Shin Hyeon-jun) joined the Ship Salvation Unit together, trained together, and were set to work together until fellow trainee Kang Su-jin (Shin Eun-gyeong) came into the picture. After mutually despising each other, Kang and Kim develop a fiery intimate romance that lasts until the three complete their training. A few years later, the three are reunited on a mission to save a sunken submarine 500 feet below the water's surface, but with a complication: Kang is to be in charge of both Kim and Lee. Initially screened at the 2003 Berlin International Film Festival, Blue proved to be a box-office disappointment in its native South Korea.
