Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Comedian Jamie Kennedy lifted bits and pieces from his earlier TV "prank" series, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, and his theatrical feature Malibu's Most Wanted to come up with this satirical quasi-reality series. The premise had Kennedy and his best friend-business partner Stu Stone -- both as white as snow -- getting it into their heads to become rap artists, going so far as to write their own hip-hop songs, commit them to videotape, and shop them around to various record-company CEOs (all played by "themselves"). Meanwhile, Kennedy encountered a great deal of resistance to his career change -- not from the music industry (as might be expected), but from his own manager and family members (if these sequences were scripted, they certainly didn't look that way). Drawing its title from the showbiz term for matriculating from talented newcomer to full-fledged celebrity, the weekly, half-hour Blowin' Up made its MTV bow on May 16, 2006.
