Synopsis by Mark Deming

Love and couches provide the backdrop for this independent comedy from the writing and directing team of Rhett Lewis and Burke Lewis. Archie (Rhett Lewis) and Sophie (Candyce Foster) are a pair of twenty-somethings who are boyfriend and girlfriend . . . well, sort of -- Archie is crazy about Sophie, but she isn't always sure if she wants to be more than just friends, and their days together have a way of devolving into spitting contests or arguments over who can perform a better fake English accent. Archie also looks after his brother Billy (Zachary Christian), who has a severe hearing problem; Archie tries to cure Billy's condition by duct-taping a toy microphone and amplifier to his brother's head, with middling success. As Archie tries to do the best thing for both Sophie and Billy, they spend their spare time with an old couch on casters which can roll down hills, across streets and through car washes when boredom catches up with hem. Billy Was A Deaf Kid received its world premiere at the 2009 Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California.
