Synopsis by Mark Deming
Christopher Rios was born in a rough neighborhood in the Bronx, and at an early age he was determined to make something of himself. And he did -- recording as Pig Punisher, or Big Pun for short, Rios was the first Latin hip-hop artist to earn a platinum album, and his fluent ability to spin rhymes made him a legend with both rap audiences and his fellow artists. But Big Pun's days in the limelight proved to be short; Rios had long suffered from a severe weight problem, and he tipped the scales at nearly 700 pounds when he died of a heart attack on February 7, 2000. Big Pun: Still Not a Player is a documentary about the life and career of Christopher Rios, featuring interviews with his wife, his family, and his children, as well as such famous friends as Nas, Ice-T, RZA, Raekwon, and Fat Joe.
