In the future, the most elite young athletes gather at the United System Sports Academy -- or USSA -- the most technologically advanced sports facility the world has ever seen, to hone their skills and hopefully become champions. Akari Kanzaki is one bright young athlete among the many at the academy, but as the daughter of the first and most famous champion of the USSA, she might face more pressure than she can handle. Battle Athletes focuses on passion for athleticism rather than violence, despite the full-contact sports it depicts. The series was actually inspired by Battle Athletes OVA; however, the two series are virtually mutually exclusive in many ways and do not need to be watched in conjunction.
