Synopsis by Nathan Southern

Polish director Maciej Pieprzyca's tense drama Fryzjer (Barber) travels to a small town in Eastern Europe to witness a horrific and brutal series of events. Krzysztof Pieczynski stars as Karol Izydorowicz), the hair stylist of the title, who ill-advisedly grows smitten and transfixed by a beautiful young denizen of his village. In time, the young lady turns up cruelly murdered; because the affection felt by Karol for this would-be paramour is obvious to everyone in the town, the authorities tag him as the chief murder suspect - thereby igniting a firestorm of gossip, suspicions, inferences and gross assumptions by the villagers. Pieprzyca uses screen time to both wax lyrical on the nature of romantic infatuation and to condemn the natural suspicion and mistrust of townsfolk.
