S.U. Sunny directs this usual and wildly popular romantic melodrama about a love triangle between the rakish new mailman Ashok (Dilip Kumar), the beautiful daughter of the old mailman Bela (Nargis) and the stuck-up daughter of a local landlord named Usha (Munawar Sultana). Ashok gives Usha music lessons until Bela, in a fit of jealous rage, tells her to stay clear of her future husband. Usha stops the music lessons and promises to Bela that she will marry the man her father chooses. Unfortunately for Bela, the man Usha's father chooses is none other than Ashok. This drives Bela crazy until she disrupts the wedding and ends up killing herself in the process.
