synopsis
The central message of Georges Berr and Rene Verneuil's French drawing-room comedy Azais is encapsulated in a key speech by a key character. After several disasters have befallen him, the character waxes philosophic: since he is suffering so mightily, it stands to reason that someone must be having a wonderful time somewhere else. Everyone in the story sets out to find that elusive "wonderful time"-often with success. Max Dearly repeats his stage role as Le Baron Wurtz. Azais might have been more fun had the director possessed the light touch of a Rene Clair or Ernst Lubitsch.
