Synopsis by Corinna Richards
Adventurous scientists with innovative technologies are revolutionizing our knowledge of the universe. This series of 6 parts spans five continents to interview astronomy's newsmakers and examines such cutting edge topics as dark matter, quasars, black holes and the search for planets outside our own solar system. Focusing on lives of the scientists, these films feature state-of-the-art visual effects for a stunning exploration of the wonders of the universe using animated 3-D computer-generated imagery. Astronomers believe the universe contains at least ten times as much mass as can be seen and accounted for. How they are able to detect this missing mass and discovermore about it are the subjects of this episode. Astronomers Vera Rubin and Tony Tyson describe their search for dark matter : material invisible to us but whose gravity affects the motion of stars and can alter the light reaching us from distant galaxies.
