Synopsis by Alice Duncan

Renowned concert pianist Artur Rubinstein performs selected works by Chopin, including Mazurka in C Sharp Minor, Opus 10, Number 4; Scherzo in C Sharp Minor, Opus 39; Nocturne in F Sharp Major, Opus 15, Number 2; and Polonaise in A Flat Major, Opus 53. The presentation (which consists of footage shot in the 1950s) also contains short scenes of Rubinstein conversing with others on the set and announcing which pieces he plans to play. During the performance scenes, the camera is often focused more on the musician than on the keyboard and his hands. Since the original recording is half a century old, the quality of the soundtrack may not meet modern standards, but the film's historical value still remains.
