Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

This documentary, part of the American Justice series from A&E and narrated by American Justice host and producer Bill Kurtis, is the last of a four-part series on the Mob and its members. This episode takes a look at the informants who break the sacred code of the Mob, called the Omerta. Within the Mob, breaking the code of silence is considered the ultimate sign of disloyalty. American Justice takes a close look at some of the most infamous Mob informers, including Joseph Valachi and Sammy Gravano. There are interviews with some of these informers, who speak openly about what they did and how they knew it would "ruin" them. Federal agents also talk about the role of the informant in organized crime and how some of the most notorious Mob leaders have gone to jail because of these so-called "Mob rats."
