Was Lawrencia "Bambi" Bambenek a beautiful yet vengeful killer or was she a victim of a systematic plot to frame her? A&E poses this question in the one-hour American Justice: Hunting Bambi. As a top graduate of the police academy, Bambenek had everything going for her. She was attractive and motivated and had a new job with the Milwaukee police department. But her dream soon turned into a nightmare when she discovered an incredible amount of corruption within her workplace. Feeling targeted as a female officer, Bambenek reported the abuse and was subsequently fired. Her life took an even more bizarre turn when her husband's ex-wife was murdered. From the start, Bambenek was the prime suspect. She was eventually convicted of manslaughter and sent to prison. However, almost ten years into her time, Bambenek escaped. With the help of the Canadian government, her trial was re-examined and the results were astounding. From missing evidence to perjured witnesses, the court battle was faulty in every way. The Milwaukee police were almost certainly the ones who set her up. Bambenek received a reduced sentence of time served and two movies of the week, but her name was never cleared. A&E examines the chilling case of the pin-up girl turned scapegoat.
