Having replaced an ailing Helen Mack at the very last minute, poor Wynne Gibson doesn't know what to do in Aggie Appleby, Maker of Men, a so-called screwball comedy that seems to run out of steam at the halfway mark. Should she marry Adoniram Schlump (Charles Farrell), the slightly effete out of work socialite whom she has turned into a roughhewn construction worker named Red Brannigan? Or return to the real Brannigan (William Gargan), who most inconveniently has been released from jail and now wants her back? She ends up choosing the latter and then forces him to change his name to Adoniram Schlump, leaving the real Schlump to find happiness with the ingénue Betty Furness. Confused? Well, probably no more so than screenwriters Humphrey Pearson and Edward Kaufman, who had used an un-produced play by Joseph Kesselring as their blueprint, but seem to have gotten lost somewhere along the way.
