Adventures of Smilin' Jack: Held for Treason (1943)
by Hans J. Wollstein review

Chapter 11 of Universal's Adventures of Smilin' Jack marks the exit from the serial of Russian character actor David Hoffman, whose immigrant jeweler turned Nazi spy Blenker remains the chapterplay's most interesting and colorful villain. Unlike the rather stereotypically Teutonic Fraulein Von Teufel (Rose Hobart), the weasel-like Blenker is drawn with at least a modicum of realism, what with his furtive glances and willingness to make a deal with the highest bidder, and Hoffman makes the most of his opportunity. The actor is perhaps best-known as "The Spirit of the Inner Sanctum" in the studio's popular series.
