Synopsis by Violet LeVoit

Canadian feminist and former literature professor Maryse Holder (co-director Jackie Burroughs) traveled to Mexico in the late '70s to put into action the call to shake off the sexual double standard and embrace her own hunger for sex as men did, danger be damned. Her long, alcohol-fueled sojourn seeking what she regarded as true, lusty, animalistic men in Mexico collided with the ethos of machismo and she was murdered under mysterious circumstances in 1977. This ominous retelling of her "heart of darkness" descent into the underbelly of women's liberation is adapted from her letters back home, as collected in the book Give Sorrow Words: Maryse Holder's Letters from Mexico.
