A transfer to Washington D.C. threatens to separate Captain Farleigh Bright (John Charles) from his sweetheart, Bossy Brander (Grace Darmond). But when Major Yell, the local political boss (Walter Roberts), is looking for someone to run for Congress, Bright figures that Bossy's father, cattle king Maverick Brander (Tyrone Power, Sr.), would be perfect -- that way both he and Bossy would be in the nation's capitol. Brander isn't the least bit interested in running, though, and insists on leaving town until after the election. This doesn't stop Bossy, who makes sure he is elected anyway, and they are on their way East. After a rough start, the family of ranchers learn how to fit into Washington society, but not before the relationship between Bossy and Captain Bright is derailed. As election time nears once again, Major Yell and two of his cronies come out to Washington to investigate Brander's doings. Mrs. Brander makes an attempt to get rid of the crude arrivals, but they just get drunk and start happily shooting up the hotel. Bossie and Captain Farleigh make up while Brander helps his pals from back home escape from the police. When theatrical star Tyrone Power, Sr. was making this picture -- one of his first screen appearances -- his son, future film idol Tyrone Power, was but one year old.
