synopsis
The Hungarian Nice Neighbor (A Kedves Szomszed) extracts its humor from the Eastern European housing shortage. The scene is a crumbling old house, where Laszlo Szabo, a tenant who wishes to expand his living quarters, poses as a "nice guy" who claims he wants to help his neighbors. In truth, he's a shifty opportunistic who takes advantage of the gullibility of his so-called friends in order to make himself more comfortable. By the time he has changed his spots and become genuinely fond of his neighbors, they are all forced to move by when the building is targeted for demolition. The only person who sticks with Szabo is an old lady who'd been a resident of the house years earlier, when it was a high-class bordello.
