When Ruth Nolan (Edith Reeves) repels the advances of her boss, he fires her. She can't find a new job and she passes out from hunger on the roadside. A motion picture crew, headed by director Richard Folsom (William Lampe), finds her there. They take her to the studio, where Folsom gives her work as an actress. He also falls in love with her, but so does his leading man, Sidney Bowen (Thomas Allen Rector). Bowen once saved Folsom's life, and the grateful director not only promised him that he could have anything in his possession -- he put it in writing. So when the two men have a fight over Ruth, Bowen pulls out the agreement and takes the girl. This picture was apparently the first directed by Henry King, who, from the start, showed a fine hand for cinematic storytelling.
