Synopsis by Mark Deming

An author's friendship with a young boy has a major impact on his life and his work in this drama from filmmaker Paulo Pecora. A young man looks back on his childhood in a small village along the Parana River in Argentina, where he met a writer (Guillermo Angelelli) who had slipped into a deep depression. The writer was a reclusive sort who collected insect specimens and paddled his boat up and down the river as he sought inspiration, while the boy (Nestor Noriega) was looked after by an elderly relative (Aldo Niebuhr). When the old man died, the boy was left to fend for himself, and happened upon the writer's cabin while the author was pondering destroying himself and his belongings. Realizing the boy had nowhere to do, the writer took him in, and their lives together informed a new writing project. El sueno de perro (aka A Dog's Dream) was screened as an official entry at the 2008 Buenos Aires Film Festival.
