A half-hour situation comedy, often -- but not always -- with a laugh track. Though the sitcom often has elements of drama, romance, and soap opera, comedy predominates. In the '80s, the "dramedy" was introduced: a half-hour comedy/drama without a laugh track (The Wonder Years, The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd). Since the name didn't catch on with the public, these should be considered "sitcoms" as well. For these -- and other sitcoms -- the "comedy drama" genre can be applied as well.
