John Wayne directs himself in The Alamo. The film comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.20:1. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo, and a Spanish soundtrack can be heard in Dolby Digital Mono. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a making-of documentary, a collectible booklet, and the original theatrical trailer. This is a very good DVD release from MGM/UA, especially considering the age of the film.
