Room at the Top
Description by Nick Dedina

A surprise worldwide success and Oscar winner when released in 1959, this budget DVD edition of The Room at the Top shows that the trenchant drama has retained all of its power over the decades. The widescreen source print used is in relatively good shape but the digital transfer isn't exactly top drawer, displaying a lot of image breakup and pixilation. This is a shame because Freddie Francis' camera work here is beautiful and deserves a near-perfect presentation (Francis also shot The Elephant Man, The Straight Story, and the remake of Cape Fear). The transfer is still better than previous video versions and the Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono audio track is clean and well balanced. As extras the DVD features trailers for a plethora of VCI Home Video releases and star biographies.
