What are the best films available to watch online this week? Check out our recommendations:
Macauley Culkin turns in stunning work as Michael Alig (“King of the [New York] Club Kids”) in this fact-based film co-starring Seth Green and Chloë Sevigny. Based on the book Disco Bloodbath about Alig’s drug addiction and murder of dealer Angel Melendez, Party Monster shows the ‘80s/‘90s New York club scene is shown in all of its “fabulousness” and debauchery. The film runs a quick 99 minutes, and like any good drug, it’ll leave you pining for more time in its candy-coated splendor.
Ralph Fiennes directs and stars as Charles Dickens in the historical drama The Invisible Woman, the story of the writer’s semi-secret mistress, Nelly Ternan (Felicity Jones). Breathtaking visuals supplement the story of Ternan’s courtship by the married Dickens during the height of the Victorian era. The rest cast is top-notch, and includes Fiennes’ English Patient co-star Kristin Scott Thomas, Game of Thrones’ Michelle Fairley, and period drama veteran Tom Hollander.
Leah E. Friedman is the managing editor of AllMovie. She loves period dramas.
