William Freshman entered the British film industry as an actor in 1929. Among Freshman's more prestigious acting assignments was the role of Lord Hastings in The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934). He began his screenwriting activities in 1936 and directed his first film in 1940. William Freshman's best-known effort as writer/director was 1947's Teheran, a fast-paced melodrama about an assassination attempt aimed at President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
