biography
As Thomas Lincoln in Abraham Lincoln (1924), this tall (reportedly 6'1") actor from the stage had begun his professional career as a supernumerary at the Metropolitan Opera. A well-respected Broadway star who had appeared in such successes as Brown of Harvard, On Trial, and opposite Sir Guy Bates Post in The Masquerader, Clarke made only sporadic film appearances and mostly in routine potboilers. Oddly enough, sound basically ended his acting career and he later became an extra.
