German art director Walter Rohrig was a key figure in his country's expressionist movement. Before WWI, he worked as a set decorator in the theater. He began designing film sets after the war and went on to work in a number of prestigious silent films including The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919) with Hermann Warm and Walther Reimann. Rohrig frequently worked in conjunction with Robert Herlth on such films as Fritz Lang's Destiny (1921).
