Actress Vera Baranovskaya was one of the favorite students of the great Russian drama teacher Stanislavsky. Though primarily distinguished for her work at the Moscow Art Theater, she also appeared in films. She gained international recognition for her role in Pudovkin's The End of St. Petersburg (1927). In 1929, she left Russia to appear in films from Czechoslovakia, Germany, and France.
