biography
Pegged as a henchman from his first film (Gene Autry's Tumbling Tumbleweeds), tough-looking Tommy Coats spent his entire screen career in B-Westerns, rarely billed and often just a member of the gang. Typically unshaven, Coats was especially busy at Republic Pictures and also appeared in at least 11 serials, including The Lone Ranger Rides Again (1939, as one of the raiders) and The James Brothers of Missouri (1950, as a townsman). The latter seems to have been his final film.
