biography
Tom Haydon was one of the most important, innovative documentarians in Australia. He was also among the most prolific, and during his career he produced, directed and wrote close to thirty feature-length documentary chronicles of Australian life, its natural features, and political issues. He was one of the first documentary filmmakers to abandon a Eurocentric attitude when looking at the history and daily lives of Indigenous peoples. Later in life, Haydon worked to promote Australian documentaries. He then helped to establish the Documentary Fellowship Program for Natives with the Australian Film Commission.
