biography
Brazilian director Amaral began her career by making documentaries about art. Her first short feature, A Project for Thought and Speech (1980) was designed to educate audiences about 'women's issues.' She also worked in television. In 1985 she directed her first feature film. The movie, A hora dele estrela was quite popular in Brazil and won several awards on the festival circuit.
