biography
Actor Stephen Rea was brought up in a blue-collar, Protestant family in Northern Ireland and attended the Abbey Theatre School. He went on to co-create the Field Day Theatre with playwright Brian (Philadelphia, Here I Come!) Friel. In 1982, Rea and director Neil Jordan made their joint film debut with Danny Boy (aka Angel). Rea has remained closely associated with Jordan ever since, with choice roles in the director's The Company of Wolves (1984), Interview With a Vampire (1994), and most famously, The Crying Game (1993), which earned Rea an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of a reluctant IRA gunman.
