From 1927 onward, the Egyptian-born Hakim brothers were prime movers on the international motion-picture scene. In 1934, oldest brother Robert Hakim and his sibling Raymond, put their training at Paramount's European studio to good use, forming France's Paris-Film-Productions, the first of many such operations. Robert and Raymond's first significant success was 1937's Pepe Le Moko, followed by such well-received efforts as La Bete Humaine, Casque D'Or, L'Avventura, Belle de Jour and Isadora. While Robert and Raymond Hakim were thus occupied, their brother Andre Hakim was an executive producer at 20th Century-Fox (he'd married the sister of Fox's chief honcho Darryl F. Zanuck) and fourth brother Rafael kept busy as a film exporter.
